This is why you always need an electrician to sort through your electrical panel, do repairs, and perform upgrades. Your energy usage How is your energy usage at home? Are you adding more electrical appliances or equipment? If you are building a home office, you will likely need electrical outlets, new lighting fixtures, and additional wiring for heating and cooling. Your energy usage will determine the necessity of an electrical panel upgrade. If your electrical consumption isn’t growing, there’s little to no incentive to upgrade your electrical panel. Reasons To Hire A Wiring Contractor

wiring-contractor-300x199.jpgResidential and commercial electric wiring vary greatly. The materials and methods used for the installation are not necessarily the same. Even the electrical contractor that does the task will differ. There are electricians that specialize on residential electrical work. You can also find a wiring contractor that works solely on commercial establishments. The gist of it is that you need to find the right electrical contractor for the job. Also, don’t attempt to do any electrical tasks on your own unless you are a licensed and skilled electrician. Always bear in mind that electrical work is dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents when done by an untrained individual.

Wiring contractor explains the difference between residential and commercial wiring:

To put things into perspective, we’ll look at three factors involved in the installation of electrical wiring for both residential and commercial applications. Insulation, location, and load will be the main factors that we’ll be dealing with.  Here are the difference of the two: Insulation Wiring for residential homes normally come with sheath insulation. This is to protect the wires from external damage and users from electrocution. On the other hand, commercial wiring insulation is more advanced. Commercial wiring insulation is usually made of thermoplastic, high-heat resistant, nylon coated. This will give superior insulation over residential wiring. Also, a wiring contractor North Myrtle Beach, SC is needed to install either type of wiring. Location The electrical wiring in homes are usually tucked away from view. Despite being hidden, the wires don’t often have other means of protection. However, wiring for commercial applications are run through tube-like conduits which add more protection and make them easier for an electrician to service. Load A regular household wiring uses a single phase circuit of 120 volts with the exception of some appliances that require more power. However, commercial wiring normally uses a 3-phase electrical system. As you could imagine, the way wires are installed vary greatly between applications. Either way, an electrical contractor is needed for the installation and servicing. Who is fully capable of installing electrical wiring? Only an electrical expert like NMB Electrician Pros should install electrical wiring for both residential and commercial buildings. Do note that other contractors can make minor alterations to electrical wiring but only certified and licensed electricians can undertake major electrical projects. Why hire a licensed electrician? The Costs Associated With Electrical Wiring Installation

wiring-300x200.jpgEver wondered how much it would cost to have your home’s electrical wiring redone? How about installing the electrical wiring into a new home? In general, there are a number of factors that determine just how much it would cost for a homeowner to get the electrical wiring done. On average, costs can start from $2,000 to $9,000 depending on several factors. Often times, the total costs would vary depending on the wiring, electrician’s hourly rates, and the other materials. However, that’s just the general idea of how the costs of wiring installation are broken down.

Here’s a more detailed explanation on how much wiring installation will cost

The costs of new wiring North Myrtle Beach will greatly vary depending on a number of things including how much the electrician charges per hour and the quality of the wiring itself. The typical range for wiring installation starts from $790 for the lower end, $2,115 for average wiring, and $3,617 for the higher end wiring setup. However, smaller wiring jobs can be as low as $125 and can jump to $9,400 depending on the size of the house. Cost of electrical wiring per square foot On average, the cost of installing new wiring is often at $2 to $4 per square foot. That’s just for the installation and does not cover the actual cost of the wiring itself. Depending on the type of wiring, it could range from $6 to $8 per linear foot. As for the installation, it will largely depend on the company of your choosing. Electrical companies like NMB Electrician Pros offer quality service for reasonable rates. The average cost of rewiring a house For a house that has a floor area of 1,000 square feet, the average cost for rewiring is around $2,000 to $6,000 which equates to $2 to $4 per square foot. The cost only goes up with larger houses that reach over 2,500 square feet and involves opening up the walls. Normally, the costs for this operation would reach $12,000 to $20,000. Other factors that affect pricing include the size of the house, accessibility of the wiring, and upgrades to the electrical panel. Costs of wiring a new house Unlike rewiring an older house, setting up the wiring for a new house is a lot cheaper. The cost for wiring a 1,000 square foot house ranges from $1,600 to $3,800. Of course, the cost will only go up depending on the complexity of the design, the number of bedrooms, and the number of electrical outlets and switches. Why is it cheaper to wire a new house? The reason is quite simple. It’s the accessibility that makes it a lot cheaper to wire a new house than an older one. As opposed to an old house, a new one will have open walls. Before the walls could be set in place, the wiring must be installed first. This means the electricians have all the accessibility they need to properly install the wiring and at a speedy pace. This greatly cuts the cost when you compare it to wiring an older house. You would also need to find the right electrician for the job if you want quality and fast installation.

  1. Use energy-efficient lights – the traditional light bulbs that you might still be using in your home easts up more energy than you’d like. One option is to go for CFL light bulbs. These light bulbs offer higher energy-efficiency than traditional light bulbs. They are also cheaper and last longer. However, if you want to go a step further, you could go for LED lights. There’s one slight drawback, though. When compared to CFL light bulbs, LEDs are a bit more expensive with the more premium varieties costing as much as three times. On the other hand, the benefits will outweigh the hefty price as LED lights last quite long, are extremely high-efficient, and are brighter than traditional lights.

Electrician Tips – How To Spend Less On Electricity

electrician-in-North-Myrtle-Beach-300x200.jpgEveryone uses electricity in their homes. However, we have different usage patterns that dictate how much electricity we consume each month. There’s a huge difference in electricity consumption by just making small changes. One way is to hire an electrician in North Myrtle Beach and inspect your home’s electrical system for inconsistencies and inefficiencies. Here are some ways on how you could keep your electrical consumption down:

Tip – An electrical inspection will help you find what eats up electricity the most

  1. Hire the pros – the one thing that you could do, and by far the easiest route, is to hire an electrician. First of all, an electrician would know what to look for. Electricians also know when a particular appliance, lighting fixture, or system running in your home is eating up way too much electricity. They could also make recommendations for future upgrades to keep the electrical consumption and your monthly electric bill down.
  1. Use efficient appliances – are you still using the same appliance from ten years ago? While you might think that having them in service for so long has been rather cheap, think again. Advancements in technology has improved leaps and bounds over the last decade. That means appliances from then would be highly inefficient when compared to today’s iterations. If you’re not too familiar with the electrical consumption of your appliances, hire an electrician and they could tell you.
  1. Use insulated windows and doors – did you know that windows and doors play a huge role in keeping your home energy-efficient? HAVC systems, in general, eat up a lot of electricity. When your windows and doors are not insulated properly, cool or warm air could seep in or out. That means the HVAC system needs to work harder to keep up with demands. That ultimately means an increase in the monthly electrical bill. Your electrician would definitely tell you to get the windows and doors with the most insulating capacity.
  1. Proper usage of appliances – a master electrician would advise anyone to follow the instruction manual of any home appliance. Following the manual is basically making sure the appliance is used right. Any misused appliance would eat up more electricity than intended.
  1. Use energy-efficient lighting – do you still use those old incandescent light bulbs in your home? You might want to consider replacing them as soon as possible when you know just how much electricity they use. In general, incandescent lighting is far less efficient that newer LED lights. That’s why if you are still using them, consider buying new LED lights instead.
  1. Don’t use your HVAC if nobody is around – it would be pointless to keep your HVAC system running when no one in is in the house. When you leave for a one or two week vacation, turn all electrical appliances off. Of course, this is with the exception of having the fridge turned on. Aside from that, everything else should be powered off. Experts electricians like NMB Electrician Pros recommend such actions whenever you will be away from some time.

Master Electrician Tips – Alternating Current And Why We Use It

North-Myrtle-Beach-electrician-300x200.jpgDo you know that you have been using both direct and alternating current electricity for as long as you’ve used electrical appliances? Electricity is all around us and it’s important to understand just how it works. A North Myrtle Beach electrician knows everything there is about electricity. However, the everyday homeowner may not have the same insights. It’s quite easy to understand why. Learning about electricity could be a bit boring as today’s technology makes light of its usage. However, here are some things you should know about alternating current and its importance to our daily lives:

Electricity, electrical safety, and its applications

Back in the day when electricity was still in its infancy, there was no alternating current just yet. Scientists were still tinkering with experiments that revolve around electricity and ways to harness this power. During the time when direct current or DC was discovered, the future was looking bright for everyone. It’s during this time when the revolution about electricity came. Not long after, alternating current or AC was discovered. This was the breakthrough that had led to the modern society that we live in today. If it were not for alternating current and the brilliant minds that worked on it, our lives today would completely be different. You probably wouldn’t have known an electrician or the profession itself wouldn’t have been invented. Alternating current and its modern-day applications We live in a society driven by electricity. It’s everywhere around us. However, what’s more prevalent is the use of alternating current electricity. It’s the kind of electricity that runs through power lines that feed power to your home and into your appliances and gadgets. Despite the popularity of direct current electricity, its applications are a bit limited due to the fact that it can only be used in stand-alone applications. Direct current cannot be transferred through long distances, unlike alternating current. This makes it unviable for residential and commercial use. On the other hand, alternating current can travel great distances which makes it possible for us to get electricity into our homes from power plants hundreds of kilometers away. An electrician that works in your home would normally be working with alternating current. There are also a great deal of importance placed on electrical safety due to alternating current. With its use, it is possible to harness massive loads of electricity with alternating current. This is why safety protocols have been given a lot of importance when it comes to dealing with this type of electricity. When it comes to household applications, the possibilities are endless. The use of alternating current is so widely used that you use it for everything from cooking, cleaning, to making your cup of coffee in the morning. On the other hand, when it comes to electrical appliances and household electrical system, you should only entrust it to the experts like NMB Electrician Pros to ensure that everything will be taken care of properly.

Residential Electrician Tips – Why You Should Have Whole-House Surge Protection

surge-protection-300x200.jpgAny modern home nowadays relies heavily on electricity. Without electricity, it would be impossible to get by day to day. It’s even worse when the electrical appliances we use at home get damaged due to a sudden burst of electricity or surge. Electrical surges are known to cause major issues in homes. It not only happens when the power goes out and suddenly comes back. Electrical surges could also happen during thunderstorms and lightning just so happens to reach your home. This amount of electricity is highly dangerous for both people and electrical equipment. That’s the reason why electricians normally suggest the installation of surge protection for the entire house.

Tip – call your local electrician for advice on surge protection

Before we proceed any further, let’s talk about the damage that could be caused by electrical surges. A thousand volts of electricity could easily fry your equipment. It could be damaging to humans as well when they get in contact with such power. In general, everyday electrical appliances like televisions, computers, entertainment systems, and more are affected. These appliances normally don’t have surge protection built-in. That’s one of the reasons why surge protection for the whole house is important. Your residential electrician would normally recommend them for various reasons and that also includes safety. How they work – in general, whole-house surge protection is built into the main electric panel. When a surge of electricity comes in from the mainline, the excess energy is then diverted into the ground wire which dissipates the electricity into the earth. Instead of leading the electricity to the equipment inside the house, the electricity is routed elsewhere which saves your precious electrical equipment. What surge protectors do – surge protectors are used to preventing the entry of excess energy into the home. Events such as blackouts, power outages, and lightning strikes are among the few instances where electricity can surge into the household. When the power goes back on after a blackout, the initial supplied energy is rather huge. This is where the surge protector kicks in. What surge protectors can’t do – of course, there are limitations to everything. Lightning strikes are the most damaging forms of electrical surges there are. Lightning strikes could carry huge loads of electricity which could cause the metal to melt on contact. While surge protectors can prevent the entry of excess energy, they can’t totally protect the home from the damaging effects of a lightning strike. The areas that are hit will have some damage. However, the internal electrical system of the home will be left untouched. Always have surge protection in your home. Call your local electrician in North Myrtle Beach for help regarding the matter. Better yet, call in the professionals like NMB Electrician Pros to have whole-house surge protection installed. Don’t hesitate to have this safety feature installed. If you live in an area that is frequented by lightning storms, it would be a really good idea to have surge protection installed in your home.

electrical-wiring-300x200.jpgHomeowners generally have no other choice when it comes to electrical emergencies than to call an electrician. Keep in mind that your home’s electrical wiring should never be neglected because their correct functioning is required for your electrical appliances to operate. If there is some problem in the electrical outlet or the circuit breaker, their voltage will regularly fluctuate, which could damage the motor. So, it is important to make sure that your wiring is inspected every few months by a professional electrician. So here are a few signs that indicate your electrical system requires an upgrade.

Common problems that call for the help of an electrician

Breakers constantly Trip - Tripped circuit breakers is the main reason why you need to think of having your home’s electrical wiring upgraded. Circuit breakers flip whenever the load is higher compared to what it can take. It may sound frustrating but it is actually the breaker’s way to notify you that the overall power intake of your home is too much. But if it is flipping frequently due to no reason at all, you have to call a residential electrician and have your wiring checked and upgraded. Dated wiring - When was the last time you had your house rewired? In case you reside in an old home, let us say it was built 40 years ago, it is most likely that your home still has its original wiring system. Are you not considering to have it updated? Wires in homes that are already too old are no longer safe. They could be prone to various electrical hazards. To keep your family and your property safe, get in touch with a residential electrician in North Myrtle Beach right away. Sparks - Sparking is never a good sign and you must never ignore it. They are dangerous and it is most likely that you would not have any idea what triggered it. If it is originating from a breaker panel or fuse box, call a professional right away. Flickering lights - Dimming or flickering lights is not always because of the fixture. The problem commonly arises from a major appliance that may have been wired to the exact same circuit. You need to know that an appliance that cool or heat needs more power. If you observe that lights flicker whenever you switch on the washing machine in your house then you have a pretty good idea what’s the cause of the issue. Buzzing noise - When did you last hear your appliances make weird noises? It was most likely when they were not working properly. Appliances should not make noise unless they need some repairs. If electricity flows smoothly between the connections, then everything is good and quite. However, if you notice weird sounds, it could be due to loose prongs or frayed wires, which can cause electricity to jump and create buzzing sounds. When you hear these sounds, it’s a clear indication that you need to call in experts like NMB Electrician Pros to have it fixed.

5-Step Guideline On Hiring An Electrical Contractor

emergency-electrician-300x200.jpgWhen you experience electrical problems at home, it’s common to go right straight to the phone and call an electrician. But how do you make sure that you’re calling the right contractor? What defines a good contractor and how can you make sure that you are dealing with the best emergency electrician in your area? This article is all about how you can find the right electrical contractor through five easy steps. Read on to know more.

A quick guide on how to hire an electrician

  1. Always ask for credentials – anyone working as a professional electrician is bound to have a license. As a rule of thumb, never work with anyone that does not have a license to practice especially for major electrical work. Also, be certain that the North Myrtle Beach electrician is insured. Despite the precautions made, there will always be a chance of an accident. Hiring an electrician with the right insurance policies will not hold you liable for any damages made to your electrical system. This is why asking for credentials is a key part in hiring an electrical contractor.
  1. Ask for references – the mistake that people make when hiring an electrician is not asking for references. Sure, you can take their word but is it any good? Asking for references gives you a clear idea and proof that they are what they say and people agree with it. References help you figure out if that particular contractor is a good candidate for your project or job.
  1. Check their employees – a good contractor is one that treats their employees well. This includes the right work environments, compensation and more. Also, make sure that the contractor employs drug-free personnel and those without felonies. This is not to discriminate people but rather a precaution and insurance on your part.
  1. Ask for the price upfront – some shady contractors give you the run around when it comes to the final price. This is bad practice. Always make sure that you agree upon a price upfront. Don’t hire anyone before getting a specific price. This ensures that you won’t be charged for anything that you didn’t agree about.
  1. Take a look at the small details – professional electrical contractors never let their people go out on a job without proper uniform, equipment, and etc. These may be small details but they highlight the level of details and dedication these contractors have. Sometimes, it is in these small details where you can gauge their level of professionalism. A positive interaction with an electrician indicates good personality and a mirror of how the company trains its people.
When it comes to electrical issues at home, the better option is to call an electrician. Despite having some experience and level of confidence in dealing with electrical repairs, you should never attempt repairing electrical problems on your own. It is simply not safe and can do more harm than good. For minor or major electrical jobs, call experts like NMB Electrician Pros.

Residential Electrician Tips – Stopping Buzzing Fluorescent Lights

residential-electrician-300x214.jpgIf you’ve ever had fluorescent lights in your home before, it won’t be much of a surprise to see them flicker, hum, or buzz. Unlike the LED lights that are purely driven by electric circuits, fluorescent tubes use a ballast or transformer. Your residential electrician knows about this and what a ballasts purpose and common problems. So why do fluorescent lights buzz? What causes the annoying noise that just doesn’t go away? We will tackle this problem and layout the solutions for this issue.

Lighting and electrical safety

To put an end to the constant buzzing of your fluorescent lights, you must first understand how these lights work. Fluorescent lights use a ballast or transformer to make it light up. This is no longer found in modern LED lights but older fluorescent lights need it to work. The fluorescent tube itself does not make any noise. It is merely the lighting element in the system, providing the illumination once it is turned on. The ballast, which operates at around 60 hertz, produces sounds that we would normally associate with something buzzing or humming. Under normal circumstances, the sound that the ballast produces is not loud enough to cause any annoyance. However, with a mix of problems, it becomes louder than usual, enough for humans to hear. Ballast issues One solution is to replace the tube and ballast entirely. Older magnetic ballasts are replaced with electronic ones that will eliminate any noise. However, electronic ballasts don’t accommodate older fluorescent tubes. The older tubes are bigger and will not fit with newer ballasts. Instead, T-8 lamps are used. If you switch to T-8 lamps, you will no longer hear any buzzing noises that you would with older units. Do enlist the help of an electrician when replacing old lighting fixtures with newer ones, particularly if you are not familiar with how electrical wirings work. Starter problems Another solution for the annoying buzzing sound that fluorescent lights produce is to replace the starter. Sometimes, the starter can be the cause of the whole problem. The starter is the small cylindrical plug that is sticking out from the ballast. When the starter is not attached or is not set in properly, the lamp will have a hard time starting and the ballast will make noises during which. To alleviate this problem, simply reseat the starter or replace it with a new one. Starters are pretty cheap to replace. It is suggested to try out a fresh starter before making any replacements. It is a much cheaper option than replacing your ballast and fluorescent tube altogether. Again, it is important that any lighting fixture replacements be done by a licensed electrician in North Myrtle Beach. Aside from knowing what to do, they can make assessments on whether you have bad lighting or not. Experts like NMB Electrician Pros can help you with any of your electrical concerns at home. Whether it’s lighting or your electrical wiring, electricians will be your best bet for solving any kind of electrical concern.
